Macclesfield & District FA Sunday Cup Quarter Finals
Vale 2 Brewers 1
Vale stunned Brewers at Back Lane to claim an unlikely semi-final spot after coming from a goal behind to take the tie 2-1 .Martin Firth put the visitors ahead with a spectacular left foot shot form 30 yards but they couldn’t add to their one goal advantage despite plenty of possession.. Vale came back in the second half and goals from Tom Burgess and David Holmes sent them through .
Alderley Royal Oak 7 Wilmslow Albion 2
An ignominious exit for Albion who were still in the match at half time trailing 2-0. There demise came when midfielder Ben Thornley went off injured and they lost their driving force in midfield. For Alderley , Scott McGowan helped himself to a hat-trick with Andy Hurst grabbing two, one from the penalty spot. Steve Boardman and Duncan Warrinder added one a piece.
Baths 3 Poynton Workman 4
Three goals in a frentic four minutes midway through the second ultimately decided this tie in the visitors favour but realistically the match was anybodies until then .

Both teams tried to play football but too often the ball held up in gloopy mud and momentum was lost. Despite the mud both goal keepers were kept bust and didn’t let their teams down , Marcus Pencheon and Lee Anderson both pulling off fine saves. Poynton striker Jon Cairns had been on the losing side in the Saturday Cup semi final held the day before but he certainly made amends for his Sunday team scoring a hat-trick . Rick Tindall added a fourth. Baths scorers were Craig Poyser with two and Steve Brain.
Oxfford 5 Hollins 2
Oxfford eased into the semi’s with a comfortable victory against their first division opponents . It could have been much different though. Hollins had much the better of the opening exhanges and were unfortunate to be trailing 2-1 at the turnround. The second half was a different affair . Chris Mason gave Hollins a torrid time down the left and Dave Billington buzzed around the edge of the box and the goals duely came .Billington scored twice , Mason once and they were joined on the score sheet by Carl McCurrie and Liam Hadfield who took the captain’s armband after coming on as a substitute. After Gaz Burns scored in the first half it was mere consolation when top scorer Matt Beswick confidently tucked away a penalty for the visitors.
