I am a local guy named Peter Warren and I have recently completed a book entitled "My First 25 Years" - A tale of discovery and shared memories of family life.
Because of the deadline I set myself to complete my book, I still have a couple of outstanding facts about my mother that I would love to know.
In my book I explain that my mother was left as a baby on the steps of a Pawnbrokers Shop on what was then named Cuckstoolpit Hill, and was brought up in their home at 12 Brunswick Square by the kind ladies who found her. Those ladies were Ellen Sims and her daughter, Alice who became Alice Hindley after her marriage to Thomas Hindley the year following her "find".
I would dearly love to find an old photo of Walker’s Pawnbrokers Shop on Cuckstoolpit Hill and also old photos of Brunswick Square.
Also I have no photos of my mother as a child or a young adult. She lived in the Square (no.12, with the Hindleys) until 1936 and would have attended St Pauls School in Macclesfield. She was born in 1912 and would have been in school from around 1917 until she left in 1923 (aged 11) or 1926 (aged 14). I did make some enquires but to no avail. A class photo of that time may allow me to identify her.
Her name was Violet Newton Holland.
To sum up, I am looking for:
1. A photo of Walkers Pawnbrokers Shop on Cuckstoolpit Hill.
2. Photos of Brunswick Square.
3. Photos of my mother in the Square.
4. Class photos (with mum) of St Pauls (around 1917 to 1926).
I would be most grateful if you, or any of your readers, can help. Please contact me at:
