“It is becoming more and more popular for couples considering entering into a marriage, or considering living with a Partner to protect themselves should the relationship break down at some time in the future. This is done by entering into a Contract known as Pre-nuptial Agreement or Cohabitation Agreement. There is also a Contract for civil partners to enter into known as a Pre Cip.
This is wholly unromantic, and inappropriate one may think. However it can save a lot of hardship and tears should the relationship end and no agreement has been entered into beforehand. In our experience it is the arguments over what is going to happen with the house and how the money and other assets shall be divided that cause most arguments and bitterness upon the breakdown of the relationship.
We may think that such an agreement shall only be appropriate for the very wealthy or very famous, who have millions to protect. However these agreements are now been entered into by normal working class couples. These agreements are now being taken more seriously by the Courts, and can save a lot of time and money by not fighting it out in Court. “ said Sharon Whiston.
