East Cheshire Football League.
Old Alts 1 Wilmslow Sports 4
Wilmslow were probably expecting an easy ride in this clash between the top and bottom clubs in the East Cheshire League. But the gap was not that evident with the home side playing some gutsy, spirited football. Nevertheless it was Tom Gill who put Wilmslow ahead only to see the score levelled by a fine strike from Anton Danakoh. So for the fourth league game in a row Old Alts were still on level terms at the interval. The difference between the teams was that Wilmslow expect to win whereas Alts have grown used to losing. In the second half Wilmslow proved to be clinical in turning chances into goals. It was Tom Gill who turned the knife with two well-taken goals to complete his hat trick. Nick Russell added insult to injury with a late tap in to bring his personal tally for the season to 17, now just 2 ahead of Tom Gill.
Poynton Kings 1 Poynton Nomads 4
Poynton Nomads continued their push towards the top of the table with a convincing victory over local rivals Poynton Kings. The action was all had in the first half with Nomads racing into a 3-0 lead in the space of 20 minutes with goals from Alan Hey, Will Perry and Matthew Dent. Luke Murray then single handily pulled Kings back into the game with a solo run and shot that found the corner of the net.
Nomads soon re-established their superiority however with Perry bagging his second and Nomads fourth of the afternoon. The second half produced no goals as Kings fought hard to rectify the defensive mistakes of the first half. With both teams now looking at different ends of the table it will be essential for them to finish their respective seasons strongly to achieve their individual targets.
LEAGUE CUP
Boarhound 1 Mary Dendy 0
A spirited defensive display wasn’t quite enough to keep Mary Dendy in the League cup as they went out to thunderous 25 Yard strike from Matty Roberts on thirty six minutes which man of the match Stuart Davies almost kept out .Despite playing much of the second half with only ten men following Will Tolley’s untimely departure with injury Dendy and in particular Davies continued to frustrate the Boarhound team who dominated large parts of the game . Stuart Davies pulled off a string of spectacular saves including a miraculous effort from Sean Gill which he managed to turn onto the bar whilst falling backwards. Last season’s runners up look one of the favourates to reach the final once again.
Juno 3 High Lane 2
A battling display saw them fight back from 0-2 to eventually win 3-2 and go into the hat for the next round of the cup. High Lane started brightly with Jake Getchevsky scoring twice in the opening fifteen minutes , the second from a ridiculously acute angle. Steve Jenkins pulled a goal back for Juno before half time to reduce the arrears. The second half saw a turn round in fortune with the home side well in control . Sam Woodward ensured parity scoring from a flick on after 65minutes and with eight minutes remaining it was Woodward again who beat a defender and drilled home a low shot from eighteen yards to send Juno though to the next round.
Old Alts Vets 1 Old Alts Youth 2
Despite taking the lead through debutant Luke Chadwick the Vets crashed out of the league cup following two goals from Youth , the first a hotly disputed penalty.
