Macclesfield College Catering & Hospitality students have been celebrating recently after returning from the Welsh Salon Culinaire competition with a fistful of prizes and a coveted Gold!
The competition, which was held at Coleg Llandrillo in Colwyn Bay, is part of the Welsh International Culinary Championships, a yearly competition for up and coming industry talent.
Macclesfield College students competed alongside numerous other colleges from across the country and looked, as well as acted, like professionals in their brand new chef jackets, part of the sponsorship kindly received from Birchall Catering – Macclesfield College’s dry goods supplier.
Ciara Newton, a first year NVQ Level 2 student won Gold in Junior Napkin Folding, Silver went to Chloe Thorley for cutting a chicken for sauté and Bronze to Charlotte Clarke for filleting fish. Tom Bentham, who is studying for an NVQ 2 in Catering and Hospitality was a awarded a Certificate of Merit for his mashed potato piping. Ciara Newton also won a Certificate of Merit for cooking Sole Du Glere (a Ceserani and Kinton dish).
