In today’s economic climate businesses must do all they can to remain competitive. With research showing that companies investing in training are 2.5 times less likely to go under during a recession, many companies are considering how taking on an apprentice could boost their business.
In 2007/08 225,000 people started an apprenticeship in England. By 2020 the Government is committed to ensuring that this figure reaches 400,000. As part of this initiative apprentice training for 16-18 year olds is being provided for free at Macclesfield College.
If you are an employer who has a 16-18 year old member of staff, why not consider training them through an apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are designed to help your employees reach a higher level of competency and performance and can make your organisation more effective, productive and competitive by addressing skills gaps. Training apprentices can also be more cost effective than hiring experienced staff.
Training lasts between 1 and 4 years depending on the sector and the apprentice’s existing knowledge and takes place through a combination of on and off the job training. Apprentices study for nationally recognised work-related qualifications at Macclesfield College at the same time as gaining experience and learning from the experienced staff in your business.
Jake Wilson, 18, Apprentice Electrician with Chapel-en-le-Frith based Automated Living, is on a 3 year Advanced Apprenticeship programme. He has been studying for NVQ, City and Guilds and Key Skills qualifications at Macclesfield College since November:
‘I chose to come to Macclesfield College as the facilities were very professional. I have learnt a lot which now allows me to tackle more difficult jobs during working hours.’
