The free evening, which was organised by BTEC hospitality students, started with a cocktail reception in the lounge before the guests took their places in the College’s Silk Room Restaurant.
Former Macclesfield College catering student, Scott Surtees, who is now Head Pastry Chef and Senior Sous Chef at the award winning AA 2 rosette Alderley Edge Hotel, led the NVQ catering students in preparing and cooking the meal.
The event provided the guests with the opportunity to socialise with their contemporaries, including Jennifer Sibbald-Wall, General Manager of Shrigley Hall Hotel, Thomas Ludecke, Executive Chef of Stanneylands Hotel and Andy Powell, General Manager of Adlington Hall.

The students’ meal was designed to enhance links with local employers, who can provide work-based placements for hospitality students and leading chefs to work alongside catering students at the Silk Room’s Signature Dinner evenings.
Sue Lawrence, BTEC Hospitality Tutor, commented: ‘The students can be very pleased that they hosted such a successful event. The evening was especially valuable to our hospitality students, who further increased their experience of managing corporate events.’
The Silk Room Restaurant is open to the public during term-time, offering a delightful range of menus at very reasonable prices. All food is prepared and served by students on catering and hospitality courses.
