League Cup Quarter Finals

Boarhound      7      Brewers    5   a.e.t

This cup tie on Windmill Street will go down in the annals of Sunday league cup history  as an absolute classic!! As soon as the draw was made for the Quarter finals this fixture stood out. Brewers, having already beaten Pack Horse twice in the league and the FA Sunday cup,  were one of the cup favourites whilst Dave Hulme’s young charges at the Boarhound  were taking the First Division by storm scoring plenty of goals and playing some great football.
Jack Pilley celebrates for Brewers

The first half was a predictably tight , tense affair with neither side able to really dominate possession but once Wayne Riley let fly from twenty yards to give Boarhound the lead barely a minute into the second half the game simply exploded . Jack Pilley bundled the ball home three minutes later following a corner to equalise but Boarhound sensed a famous victory and piled forward. Wayne Riley , Ben Hamand  and Craig Hayes were all outstanding but it  was teenage striking sensation Decland Fletcher  who caught the eye with his pace and finishing. Riley got his second to make it 2-1 , once again firing home from distance but this time from the left and then Fletcher scored twice to give the First Division side a potentially match winning lead at 4-1.  Brewers clearly thought otherwise. An opportunist strike from Matt Woolley made it 4-2 , a goal that was barely celebrated  but two more goals from the Premier Divisions leading scorer  Jake McGarry , remarkably tied the game at 4-4 with ten minutes remaining.  Ben Hamand thought he’d won the game as his goal put the hosts 5-4 up but with clock ticking towards ninety minutes up popped Jake McGarry to complete his hat-trick and  celebrate with an amazing  handspring and somersault as he brought the visitors level at 5-5.

Extra time proved just as eventful but it was left to man of the match Decland Fletcher to seal the tie with two individual goals in a minute three minutes into the second half of extra time to make it thirty goals already this season and nine in this competition alone. For Brewers it’s the Macc and District Sunday Cup that sees there only hope of silverware this season. For Boarhound they are looking forward to  the semi –finals.

Albion Rovers  0    AC Bollan      3

In another Premier league  versus  first division encounter it was the Premier league side who came out on top after a under par  display by the so far unbeaten Rovers. A philosophical manager Steve Walker explained ‘some of my players went missing today and just didn’t perform, its  disappointing  but AC Bollan are a good side and we needed to be at our best’
Albion Rovers keeper Gareth Hughes

Bollan controlled the game scoring three times without reply. Tim Hammond got his fourth of the  competition , Lee Manion his first and Les Sykes scored Beckhamesque from ten yards inside his own  half!!

Poynton   0     Pack Horse     5

No surprise at Poynton as current league champions Pack Horse strolled to victory . Simon Band and Mike Mezarios both scored twice and  Dave Hancox hit his twenty first of the season in all competions.

Premier Division

Prestbury    3       Blueberry      1

Three first half goals by the prolific strike partnership of  Chris Connors and Dave Ansall put paid  to Blueberry’s challenge as they took full advantage of a strong breeze in their favour . The second half  was a different story but despite a goal from Luke Wild , the visitors couldn’t turn plenty of possession  into goals and at the final whistle Prestbury were relieved to  take all three points.

First  Division

Sporting Kerridge    3      Macc Tigers    1

Sporting Kerridge dominated this encounter  and won at a canter . Dave Finlow made it seven for the season scoring twice in the first half with Simon Williams adding a third. Lewis Patterson converted a consolation penalty in the second half for the Tigers. Pics from Albion v AC Bollan by Patrick Slattery
