Three Crowns extended their lead at the top to nine points with a comfortable win  6-2  victory against bottom of the table  Blueberry at Mary Dendy Fields. All credit to both teams , and referee Colin Leese for getting the game on at all  as the morning fog stubbornly refused to disappear but it was well worth it – some great goals, great football and a wonderful comic moment from referee Leese  as he gestured in the air for a replay when his decision was questioned pointing out that even video technology wouldn’t have helped him  in the gloom!! .
Colin Leese in charge of Blueberry v Three Crowns

Three Crowns look very much like  champions in waiting-  they have a strong spine to their team and with the recent edition of Andy Foote they have added pace,  creativity  and plenty of goals to their already impressive squad. They should have taken the lead in the opening seconds but Sean Sutton saw his shot fly high over the bar but in the end it took five minutes, Chris Coxen stooping low unchallenged to nudge the ball over the line following Andy Foote’s curling free kick that was brilliantly turned onto the bar by Dave Mellor who remains  one of the best goalkeepers in Sunday League.

Mid way through the half less than a minute after Sean Gill had seen his spectacular shot crash against the bar Blueberry were level, Lee Smith’s curling  free kick evading everyone to find the corner of the net.

Despite their position in the league, one thing Blueberry don’t lack is passion and endeavour , nobody embodies this more than their centre half Stan Hall  who ran himself into the ground  but once again the youth of Three Crowns shone through . Blueberry were guilty of giving players too long on the ball – and it cost them dear. Matty Roberts and Ryan Stewart thundering in spectacular strikes from distance that gave Dave Mellor absolutely no chance.

Further strikes in the second half, no less clinical , from Andy Foote, Sean Sutton and Jonny Mercer made it 6-1 and guaranteed the points for the league leaders but in stoppage time Jimmy Baskerville headed home for Blueberry  to give them a deserved  second . A fine game and a real credit to both teams and referee Colin Leese.

At Congleton Road,  Dave Hancox helped himself to his fifteenth goal of the season as Packhorse easily beat Oxfford who continue to blow hot and cold. Pack now lead a chasing pack of no less than seven clubs who are within three points of each other .

Lee Malkin , with two , Jono Campbell and an own goal completed the rout.

Tim Hammond produced a virtuoso performance for AC Bollan as he scored three and set up two more for Andy Davies  and Ben Davenport as the visitors piled on the misery for Vale whose goal came from Tom  Burgess , his second of the season.

Poynton got a wake up call against Hollins at Mary Dendy as they suffered their heaviest defeat of th season . In the first half fog they only trailed 2-0 but as the fog began to clear so did their defence and Hollins took full advantage scoring six times in a one sided second half.
Ref Chris Cooke lays down the law

Top goal scorer Matt Beswick had no trouble finding  the net as he scored  a hat-trick and he was joined on the score sheet by Will Tolley, Greg Jackson , John Frohlich, Gaz Burns and an own goal which was claimed by John Browning but on consultation with referee Chris Cooke  was eventually credited as an own goal.

At Congleton Road,  Tythy  Juniors took all three points with a measured display against Unicorn , a win that takes them up to fifth. Jez Shepherd’s fourth goal of the season wasn’t enough for the visitors as they leaked four goals . Ryan Walker hit two with  James  Milner and David Scott hitting one a piece.
